Homages Continue for Rob and Michele Reiner as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to express about his profound loss.
"Enough time has passed that I can finally articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the film, commenting that he could not remember "one day without joy".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a different piece, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate issued a embargo on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "all case details, documents, files or images" pertaining to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of foul play, with a public database citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Fallout and Commentary
After the tragedy, public figures shared different comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive claims that were broadly criticized by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the those speaking out last week. Conversing on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "disturbing" and suggested they showed a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an aide ought to have acted when the choice to speak on the passing was made.
