NBA game action

The Miami Heat put up eighty-six opening half scores versus the Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a overwhelming 146-114 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in their first NBA match since guard Terry Rozier was detained over alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was also detained as part of a sweeping FBI probe into illegal gambling. The two individuals deny the allegations.

However, the Heat were focused as they scored 86 first-half points to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37 year existence.

Bam Adebayo led the way with twenty-four scores and later stated Rozier had the support of the team.

"We support him. Full support," Bam said. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is somebody who is very dear to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces this."

The Trail Blazers additionally secured their first game since the arrests, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Billups' absence and guiding the team to a decisive 139-119 win over the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Tiago remarked. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events

Addressing the detentions for the first time, league head Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.

"Nothing is more critical to the league and its fans than the integrity of the game," he informed Amazon Prime. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver further mentioned an NBA investigation into the player's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the betting companies," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were open about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And two and a half years later, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise in this case between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
