Six Individuals Detained Following €12M Armed Raid on Gold Processing Laboratory in the French Republic

A group of six individuals equipped with assault rifles and handguns detonated charges to break into a precious metals processing plant located in Lyon, causing light wounds to five staff members during what is being called the newest significant daytime heist to hit the nation.

The audacious robbery occurred on Thursday late morning, with law enforcement authorities quickly arresting the suspected perpetrators and retrieving the loot valued at approximately €12 million (10.5 million pounds), as stated by authorities.

Five employees of the gold refining company were slightly hurt due to the explosion, and three of them were taken to a medical facility for evaluation, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight workers were present on-site when the thieves struck.

Those arrested, believed to be seasoned offenders, were arrested shortly after the incident in the adjacent municipality of the town of Vénissieux, according to investigative sources.

A female participant who participated in the raid was likewise arrested, a police source indicated.

“Six individuals who used detonations in a raid against a metals processing plant in Lyon were apprehended red-handed,” the French interior minister announced via X, praising officers for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were likewise seized.

The heist took place as law enforcement in France on the same day detained five further people, among them a key figure, in relation to this month's brazen raid on the Louvre museum.

Dozens of investigators have been pursuing four robbers who employed a truck equipped with a moving lift and cutting gear to breach a first-floor gallery at the prestigious institution on 19 October, making off with precious items estimated to be worth 88 million euros.

In a different significant robbery, robbers the previous month forced their way into the French capital's Natural History Museum, stealing gold samples valued at more than one million dollars. A young Chinese female was taken into custody recently in Barcelona, Spain in connection with the break-in, according to legal authorities.

The sequence of heists has raised concerns in France regarding insufficient protection at cultural venues and other facilities holding high-value objects.
