Uncovered Exchanges Depict Epstein and Summers as Close Associates
Numerous communications between found guilty offender Jeffrey Epstein and former US finance chief Larry Summers were released this week, showing the pair served as trusted allies.
These exchanges, covering 2013 to early 2019, show the two men exchanging private â and at times unseemly â perspectives on political matters and relationships.
I'm struggling to understand why [the] American elite believe if u take the life of your baby by beating and neglect it must be unimportant to your entry to Harvard,â|âIâm trying to|I am attempting to|I'm struggling to} determine why [the] American elite think if u take the life of your baby by beating and desertion it must be unimportant to your entry to Harvard,â} Summers wrote to Epstein in a 2017 message. âBut flirted with a few women 10 years ago and cannot work at a network or think tank. DO NOT REPEAT THIS IDEA.â
At that time, Harvard University was wrestling with an enrollment discussion after a once incarcerated womanâs admission to a PhD program. Summers, a one-time president of the university who resigned amid a controversy after making sexist comments about female academics, added in the message to Epstein: I pointed out that half of the IQ in [the] world was owned by women without noting they are more than 51 percent of society.â
Summers was at one time a prominent figure in the Democratic Party circles â a ex- treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, one of the main engineers of Barack Obamaâs response to the economic downturn, and a steadfast figure in the progressive media. But doubts have remained about his association with Epstein, a former associate of Donald Trump. Epstein was accused of a wide-ranging child sex trafficking operation before his demise in custody in 2019 in New York City.
Following disclosure of a earlier tranche of emails between Epstein and Summers in a 2023 piece, a representative for Summers stated that he âis very sorry for being in contact with Epstein after his legal findingâ.
Democratic Party lawmakers made public emails from the Epstein estate this week that imply Epstein was of the opinion Trump was knew about conduct by the now-convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. In response, Conservative lawmakers published a more extensive batch of 20,000 emails from the Epstein estate.
These records show that Summers maintained amicable contact with the adjudicated child sex trafficker well into 2019, with the final email exchange taking place only months before Epsteinâs detention.
Trump stated on Truth Social on Friday that he would be requesting the Department of Justice and the FBI to examine Epsteinâs âinvolvement and connectionâ with Summers, among other prominent Democratic figures and industry figures.
In the emails, Summers and Epstein talk about politics â particularly Summersâs disdain for Trump â as well as the aspects of charitable social networking â and women. Summers, 70, shared with Epstein in a 2019 exchange about his overtures toward an unnamed woman, and being turned down.
âshe's intelligent. holding you accountable for past mistakes,â Epstein replied in an exchange on 16 March. âoverlook the 'daddy' remark, I'm dating the motorcycle guy, you responded appropriately.. frustration signals affection., no protests revealed fortitude.â
Summers reiterated his sorrow in a recent statement. âThere are many things I regret in my life,â he said. âAs previously stated, my connection to Jeffrey Epstein represented a serious lapse in judgment.â
Summers was president of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006. Epstein contributed more than $9m to Harvard and its associated programs between 1998 and 2008, and was appointed a visiting fellow to perform research. The university later found Epstein âdid not have the scholarly credentials visiting fellows typically possess and his application outlined a course of study Epstein was not prepared to pursueâ.
Harvard only discontinued accepting Epsteinâs donations after he pleaded guilty to child sex offenses in 2008.
By then Obamaâs career was advancing. Summers would ultimately win appointment as director of the White House NEC from January 2009 until November 2010.
After Summers left the White House, he began soliciting Epstein for charitable advice for his wife, Elisa New, a Harvard professor developing a poetry project. Epstein and his foundations made gifts to projects linked to Summersâs wife, and the two men saw each other a twelve times between 2013 and 2016, often for dinner.
After reporting about Epsteinâs donations surfaced, Newâs charity made a donation âin excessâ of that received to anti-exploitation organizations.
