UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large blooms growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
